In 2018 I trained with the Toronto Writer's Collective to become a volunteer facilitator. The following year I co-facilitated a writing group at a residential addiction treatment centre for women in Toronto. It was a remarkable exprience. Since then, the staff has incorporated the group into their regular program.
The TWC uses Pat Schneider's Amherst approach to writing with others.
A quote from the TWC website:
"What happens in a TWC workshop? Magic is the word we often hear, as words from those who are surprised by the depth of their creativity seem to spring from an unknown source. Poets are discovered, buried voices, long without vitality, return to life, dreams are conceived and often lost individuals connect, deeply."
There is truly something magical that happens when you write with others. Check out the on-line writing and training opportunities at: torontowriterscollective.cac
